✦⸻⸻ ABOUT ⸻⸻
A gentle giant with a warrior's heart. He is altruistic to a fault, putting the needs of others before his own to a dangerous degree. Born as an bad omen from the spirits, from a young age Wahi judged his worth by his ability to help others. Outside his his boisterous personality, he is a man who thinks very poorly of himself, working to the point of exhaustion to prove that he isn't a burden. His desire to keep his loved ones safe from harm often comes across as condescending to those who don't know his desires; mistaking his actions as seeing them as fragile and in need of saving. But a tribe fights together, and an attack on one is an attack on them all. It is not a sign of weakness, it is a sign of unity.
Wahi struggles with social interactions and takes things at face value; struggling to read between the lines. While he may appear naive to some, Wahi is very intelligent. His knowledge of natural and aetherological sciences puts him on par with even the most studied scholars. With his social struggles, Wahi often speaks his mind, unfortunately coming across as tactless at times.

Biography

TW / CW;;  drug abuse, racism, slavery, colonization, violence, war

Hailing from another planet tens of thousands of years after a cataclysmic event brought on by the visiting of the Meteia, information on Wahi's history is not easily accessible. This is what we currently know:
W'ahtityl was born into the isolated Mh'arhi tribe, a cultural melting pot of all Mar groups located in a massive cenote in the Northern Mountains referred to as The Cradle. His birth had been 'boring' by religious standards, the La'a sending no signs that they were watching over him and therefore protecting his litter. This was deemed as a bad omen and resulted in him being shunned by his people.
He did what he could to scrape by, it was hard not to notice his martial prowess even at a young age. Allowed to become a hunter, it gave him the chance to leave the cenote he called home and travel the mountain range to gain some semblance of knowledge about the outside world. At some point in time, the human-driven Agarathian Empire began to intrude on his people's ancestral home, causing bloody conflict to break out between the two factions.Despite his people's innate arcane skill and exceptional strength, the hunter gatherer society stood little chance against steam powered machina and weapons of war. By the time the dust settled, the tribe was in shambles and the survivors were rounded up and forcefully assimilated into the Empire's ranks.

Mortals thought very little of the Mar, seeing them as little more than beastmen. Many of them were sold off as slave labor, and Wahi was no different. He was subdued and transported to the Empire's capital city, thrown into the gladiator pits like a common animal to fight for sport. The citizens of the capital were shocked and in awe of his physical strength. Originally meant to be 'exotic prey' for their veteran warriors, Wahi soon showed that he was a force to be reckoned with. His disinterest in traditional weaponry made him 'exciting' to watch, and despite refusing to kill his opponents out of fear of the La'a's ire, he quickly gained a fanbase as a rising star in the pits. Over the years, his contract changed hands, eventually falling into the hands of an old ex-soldier turned scholar by the name of Dharqess.Dharqess had lost his son in the conflicts to claim the Northern Mountains and seeing Wahi as a prime sample of his species, sought to study him in hopes of finding a way to 'deal with them' without the immense numbers of fatalities. Under the guise of simply wanted to learn about his culture, Dharqess offered a roof over Wahi's head and a chance to obtain an imperial education to gauge intelligence. Wahi agreed. Anything offered to him was better than his current living situation. The study lasted 7 years, and much to Dharqess's surprise, Wahi's intelligence rivalled that of mortal men, perhaps even surpassing them. He tore through natural sciences with a hunger that would make even the most eager of scholars green with envy, and to Dharqess's surprise yet again... he became attached to Wahi. The longer he studied and they more time they spent together, the more the old scholar realized that they were no different and that propaganda had poisoned their vision. He began to see Wahi as another son, and as the study ended, then came the offer of adoption. Once again, Wahi agreed, though eagerly this time. Things were finally looking up.Unfortunately the papers did not sit well with the rest of the public when they were published. The very thought of these savage beasts that killed sons and daughters of the Empire during the bloody campaign deserved to be treated with respect as intelligent beings drove some of the population to react aggressively towards Dharqess.Until one day, while out with Wahi, Dharqess was approached by a drunk man, raving madness and spitting venomous words. A scuffle ensued and the altercation ended with Dharqess dead in the street; bleeding from a stab wound from the drunkards hidden blade and the drunk man torn apart in retaliation by Wahi, witnessing the murder. Drenched in mortal blood and deemed a dangerous beast, the crowd called for Wahi's capture.

He was dragged before the church by the angry mob, demanding the so-called beast to be put down. The church's law is absolute, and the high priests knew that if he was allowed to live, this may spur the other Mar to attack their superiors. There was no trial, trial is reserved only for the enlightened races in their eyes. He was sentenced to death by executioner's axe and would have met his end if the La'a of fortune had no been smiling that day.Only one priest spoke up: Azz'nadara. The former chieftain of the Mh'arhi, Azz'nadara had cast aside his faith in the spirits in hopes of appeasing the world of men. Despite working with the organization that kept them under heel, he fought and clawed to give them whatever he could to ensure their survival. He threw himself in front of the axe, pleading for the priests to see reason. The Mar were his charges and it was a chieftain's duty to keep his people safe. The priests accepted his pleas but gave him an ultimatum - make an example of Wahi with his own hand, or the holy knights would sweep through the community to find dissension - emphasizing that they could not guarantee 'accidents' wouldn't happen and that the lives of innocents would be on his hands.
Azz'nadara paraded Wahi through the streets, and chose the first option. He took the one thing that gave Wahi a purpose as a Nii'h; cutting out what gave him his strength. Unable to work, and his mentor dead, Wahi fell into a deep depression, spending his days in opium dens in the city slums, fighting with the pain Azz'nadara had inflicted on him. But still, the church was not happy.
Again, they demanded punishment.
Once again he was brought before the church, unsatisfied with the 'sin' cut out of him. The sentenced him again, this time to hard labour in an area of the planet referred to by scholars as The Glint. It was an area heavily steeped in aetherial radiation, a product of the Cataclysm. The Glint was rumoured to be a gate between the physical and the world of the spirits, and the physical tears in the planet's aether would cause reality-warping effects. Knowing the Mar were highly sensitive to aether, Wahi would be sent to assist scholars studying the area. If he could survive 5 years of labour, he would walk away free.
His 'punishment' did not last long, however. The Glint is capricious and its will cannot be predicted. If it decides to take, then it will.
And take, it did. Upon examination of one of the aetherial tears, Wahi was pulled inside. His body was pulled this way and that, reality tearing itself asunder around him as he drifted lifeless until he was, for a lack of better wording, spit out. Somehow the tear had carried him off the planet itself and as he came to, found himself inside a cave; a blinding golden light at his back.
